Unprotected Sex, Part 2: STI, Ovulation and other questions

Do you have STI and Ovulation questions? Check out some Q&A’s below.

I had unprotected sex and am now worried about getting a sexually
transmitted infection.

  • We understand your worry and can help.
  • We offer limited STI testing at our center, and can refer you for more complete testing.
  • We can also help you find low-cost or free resources to make sure you get the medical care you need.
  • Getting tested is the only way to answer the questions you have.

This time of worry is a great time to think about your relationships, your plans and your goals.

  • Worrying is not fun. If unprotected sex leads to worry, consider reevaluating your relationships and making a healthier strategy.
  • We have women and men on staff who would be happy to talk to you about your specific goals and concerns.

If I have unprotected sex during my fertile window, or during ovulation, will I get pregnant?

  • Maybe.
  • You can only get pregnant within a few days before or after you ovulate (commonly called the fertile window).
  • It is difficult to know exactly when your fertile window is, or when you ovulate, unless you are tracking it with ovulation kits or blood tests.
  • Many women have irregular periods for a variety of common reasons, making it difficult to know if you were or were not fertile on any given day.
  • Having unprotected sex when you *think* you aren’t fertile, is no guarantee that you won’t get pregnant.

If you don’t want to be pregnant but think you might be, we offer no-cost pregnancy tests.

If you are trying to get pregnant, you will find some helpful information at WebMD.
