You have questions about your pregnancy. Maybe you’ve been reading about your options, thinking through your circumstances, or trying to figure out what to do next.

But you may have another question:

What actually happens at a pregnancy options appointment?

You may wonder which questions the staff will ask, whether you know your next steps, or whether you can share your questions without feeling pressured.

Those are fair questions.

You don’t have to have everything figured out before you reach out. An appointment can be a place to get information, ask questions, and understand what your next steps might look like.

Do I Need to Know What I Want Before My Appointment?

No. You can come with questions, even if you’re unsure what you want to do.

You might be leaning toward one option. Or could be considering several. It may be that you’re unsure how you feel.

You can still ask for information.

At Community Pregnancy Center in Anchorage, our goal is to provide information and support in a confidential, non-judgmental environment. You can ask questions about your pregnancy, learn about your options, and talk through concerns that are on your mind.

Learning is not the same as deciding.

What Happen at a Pregnancy Options Appointment?

Your visit will depend on your questions and the services you need. Here are some things you may be able to expect.

1. You Can Talk About Your Situation

You may have questions about your pregnancy, your relationship, your health, your finances, school, work, or what happens next.

You don’t need to know exactly what to say. You can start with what’s on your mind.

You might say:

  • I’m not sure what I want to do.
  • I want to understand my options.
  • I’m worried about how far along I am.
  • I have questions about abortion.
  • I don’t know how I would manage parenting.
  • I just need someone to talk to.

You don’t need to have the perfect words. Start with your questions.

2. You Can Learn About Your Pregnancy

A pregnancy test can help confirm whether you’re pregnant.

If your test is positive, a limited first-trimester ultrasound may be available if you’re eligible. An ultrasound can provide information about how far along you may be and whether the pregnancy is located in the uterus.

This information can help you understand your situation and identify questions you may want to ask next.

The services provided depend on your circumstances and eligibility. If you have urgent symptoms, such as severe abdominal pain, fainting, or heavy bleeding, seek urgent medical care rather than waiting for an appointment.

3. You Can Ask About Your Pregnancy Options

The three main pregnancy options are abortion. Adoption, and parenting.

You can ask questions about any of them without committing to a decision.

For example:

  • What would parenting involve in my situation?
  • How does adoption work?
  • What should I understand about abortion?
  • What questions should I ask a healthcare provider?
  • What information do I still need before making a decision?

If you want to learn more before your visit, you can read our guides on how to choose a pregnancy option and what each pregnancy option involves.

You can also explore our pregnancy options information page for an overview of parenting, adoption, and abortion.

4. You Can Talk Through Your Questions Without Pressure

Sometimes the hardest part is sorting through everything you’re thinking and feeling.

You may be worried about what other people will think. You may feel pressure from a partner or family member. You may be trying to understand what each option could mean for your future.

You deserve space to ask questions and get information.

You do not have to agree with anyone else’s opinion to ask for support. And you do not have to make a decision simply because you’ve started learning about your options.

Your questions are welcome, even if you don’t have the answers yet.

Is a Pregnancy Options Appointment Confidential?

CPC describes its services as confidential. Protecting your privacy is important, and you can ask questions about confidentiality when you contact the center or arrive for your visit.

You can also review CPC’s confidentiality information to learn more about privacy and what to expect.

If privacy is a concern, it’s okay to ask about it before scheduling.

Does an Appointment Cost Anything?

CPC provides no-cost pregnancy testing, eligible limited first-trimester ultrasounds, and pregnancy options information. No insurance is needed for these services.

If you have questions about a particular service or whether you’re eligible, contact CPC before your appointment.

Can I Bring Someone With Me?

You may want someone you trust to accompany you to your appointment. Guest guidelines depend on the type of appointment. For ultrasound appointments, one approved guest may join you for the ultrasound portion if you give permission. Pregnancy testing appointments do not allow guests.

Even if you bring someone with you, you can ask to speak privately with our staff at any time. You decide what you are comfortable sharing and whether you want your guest involved. This is your appointment, and your privacy and comfort matter.

No. A pregnancy decision involves your circumstances, values, health, and future. Our role is to provide information about your options, answer your questions, and give you space to consider what feels right for your situation.

You can still ask questions and learn about the services available to you. If you’re considering abortion, we offer pre-abortion screening to provide pregnancy-related information before an abortion appointment. We do not provide or refer for abortion.

Guest guidelines depend on the appointment type. One approved guest may join you during the ultrasound portion of an ultrasound appointment with your permission. Pregnancy testing appointments do not allow guests. You can also ask to speak privately with our staff.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before coming in. If you have information about your last menstrual period, a previous pregnancy test, or questions you’ve written down, those details may be helpful. You can also simply come with the questions you have.

You can ask us about additional support and resources that may be available. Depending on your circumstances and eligibility, support may include parenting education, material assistance, lactation support, birth classes, and other resources.

You Can Start With Questions
